Tattoo artist has to be a clear channel for the client and bring supportive vibrations, leaving his internal states outside of the space. Before working with the artist, make sure you like them and that they feel good to be around. If you're not sure about the integrity of the artist and how they walk their path - it's possible for them to pass on some of their energies though giving a tattoo.
